The Stack / Coding

Replit

03 Creation

Yes for non-engineers building real internal tools — Replit Agent plus instant hosting removes the deploy wall entirely. Costs are usage-based and climb with agent ambition; scope small, ship, iterate.

The job in the stack

The build-and-ship seat: prototyping internal tools and small apps with an AI agent, hosted the moment they exist.

Models & versions

  • Replit Agent 4Launched March 11, 2026 — adds a Design Canvas for all artifact types, parallel task execution (concurrent forks merged automatically) capped at 2 concurrent agents on Core and 10 on Pro, and a shared-project collaboration model replacing fork-and-merge
  • Agent modesLite, Economy, and Power — you pick the cost-versus-capability trade per request instead of paying one rate for everything. Lite for small edits, Economy for everyday builds (Replit's recommended default), Power for large codebases and production work

The honest read

What works

  • +Prompt to deployed URL without touching infrastructure
  • +Databases, auth, and hosting are built-in decisions, not projects
  • +Mobile app means genuinely building from anywhere

What breaks

  • Agent credits burn fast on ambitious builds — effort-based billing surprises people
  • Generated codebases can be hard to maintain past the prototype stage
  • You're renting the whole stack — migration off is real work

Use it for

  • Internal tools: dashboards, calculators, small CRMs
  • Non-engineers shipping their first real software
  • Rapid prototypes that need a URL today

Skip it if

  • ×You're a working developer with local tooling — Cursor fits tighter
  • ×The app is core product infrastructure — own your stack from day one

Questions operators ask

?How do I stop Replit credits from burning so fast?

Pick the mode before you prompt. Agent now runs in Lite, Economy, or Power, and most operators leave it on the most expensive setting by default. Lite handles copy and UI edits, Economy handles ordinary builds, and Power is for the genuinely hard task. Matching the mode to the request is the single biggest lever on your bill.

?Can Replit Agent build a real business app?

Internal tools and MVPs, yes — repeatedly and impressively. Customer-facing products with security and scale requirements still deserve an engineer's review before trust.

What changed

  1. Pricing re-verified on replit.com/pricing, unchanged: Free, Core $20/mo annual ($25 monthly, $25 in credits), Pro $95/mo annual ($100 list, $100 in credits). Added detail we were missing — Pro carries 50 viewer seats and 28-day database rollbacks, and Enterprise is a published tier, now listed. Real change worth acting on: Agent now has selectable modes (Lite, Economy, Power), so credit burn is a choice per request rather than a fixed rate. Economy is Replit's recommended default; Power costs the most.
  2. Pricing re-verified, unchanged (Free, Core $20/mo annual, Pro $95/mo annual). Confirmed the parallel-agent caps behind Agent 4's concurrent execution: 2 agents on Core, 10 on Pro.
  3. Verified pricing; Teams plan sunset Feb 20, 2026 and replaced by Pro. Replit Agent 4 (Mar 11, 2026) added Design Canvas, parallel task execution, and shared-project collaboration.
  4. Seeded from January 2026 baseline; plan and credit pricing pending fresh verification by the update loop.
