Run the seconds. AI Pro's 1,000 credits buy about 50 Fast generations a month for $19.99. The same work on the API at $0.10/sec for Fast 720p costs you roughly $0.80 per eight-second clip, so 25 clips spends the subscription. Under a few dozen clips a month, subscribe. Past that — or if generation runs inside a pipeline rather than a person's afternoon — the API is the honest seat, and 4K only exists there.
?What happened to Sora? Should I wait for it instead?
OpenAI shut the standalone Sora app in April 2026 and folded video generation into ChatGPT. If you live in ChatGPT, use it there; as a dedicated video seat, Veo and Runway are the current answers.
What changed
- Freshness sweep. Veo 3.1 is still the current model — no 3.2, and Flow's February 2026 merge with Whisk and ImageFX is the last structural change. Subscription prices hold, with one correction: the top Ultra tier is $199.99, not the $200 we rounded to, and it carries 20x AI Pro limits against the $99.99 tier's 5x. The real movement is in the API. Our floor was stale: Lite 720p is $0.05/sec, not $0.03, and 4K tiers now exist at the top — Fast 4K $0.30, Standard 4K $0.60. The published range is $0.05–0.60/sec. Also added the free tier we never listed (50 Flow credits/day without a subscription) and the per-generation credit costs, since 'how many videos does 1,000 credits buy' is the question operators actually ask.
